Retention

female7.jpgWhen we remove your braces, we will begin the retention stage of your treatment. Your final orthodontic result depends on your retainers, so follow through with the hard work you've put in so far. Follow these guidelines:

  • Wear your retainer full-time until Dr. Hobson tells you differently.
  • When eating, take out your retainer and put it in its case so it doesn't get lost.
  • Once a day, clean your retainer with toothpaste and a toothbrush. This will remove plaque and an odor.
  • Always put your retainer in its case if you are not wearing it!
  • Remember to remove your retainer before brushing, and brush your retainer before placing it back in your mouth.
  • Be careful with your retainer as it can be broken easily. If it breaks, please call our office immediately.
  • Bring your retainer to every appointment.
  • Do not wear your retainer while swimming.
  • The plastic on your retainer can melt, so do not put it in hot water, leave it in a hot car or accidentally run it through the washing machine!
