When should my child see Dr. Hobson?

Your Fairbanks orthodontic practice and the American Association of Orthodontists recommend that you take your child to receive a first orthodontic screening by the age seven. Early treatment helps us find potential problems and correct them before they become more problematic. Moreover, early treatment will not only help you and your child save time, but also money.

Can't my child go to Alaska Braces later?

Though your child can visit our office at a later age, the overall desired result of early interceptive orthodontic treatment has proven to be very beneficial. This is because children's permanent teeth have not finished the eruption process. As a result, we are given the opportunity to thoroughly evaluate front-to-back and side-to-side tooth relationships, which help to address any future problems at its earliest stage.

What happens at my child's first visit?

During your child's initial visit, Dr. Hobson and his team will first determine if there are any problems that need to be immediately addressed, including:

  • Potential crowding
  • Openbite
  • Overbite
  • Gummy smiles

Though it is also possible that immediate treatment may not be necessary, if treatment is needed now or later, we will develop a customized treatment plan for your child that will most effectively benefit the smile.

What are the benefits of early orthodontic care?

Though treatment varies among children, orthodontic care may include removable or fixed appliances that lead to the following long-term benefits:

  • Provide more room for crowded, erupting teeth.
  • Preserve space for unerupted teeth.
  • Create facial symmetry by manipulating jaw growth.
  • Reduce the possibility of tooth extraction.
  • Reduce overall treatment time in braces.
